How Many Pixels Do You Need to Print High-Res Photos?
Printing a digital photo onto paper requires translating digital screen pixels into physical ink dots. Understanding the mathematical relationship between pixel resolution, PPI (pixels per inch), and physical frame sizes ensures your prints look crisp, sharp, and true to life.

What is the difference between PPI and DPI?
PPI (Pixels Per Inch) refers to digital image resolution on screens and digital files. DPI (Dots Per Inch) refers to physical printer hardware — the density of microscopic ink droplets sprayed onto physical paper. While often used interchangeably, your digital photo has a PPI, and your printer uses DPI!
Can I print larger than 300 PPI if viewing from a distance?
Yes! 300 PPI is strictly required only when viewing prints held in hand at close range (~10 to 14 inches). Because the human eye cannot resolve fine detail at greater distances, a large living room canvas viewed from 5 feet away only needs 150 PPI, and an outdoor highway billboard only needs 30 to 50 PPI!
